OPTIMISTS' CLUB

The V.M.C.A. Optimists' Club hel* its first social function for the y^ar on Saturday evening, when a numbed of members and their, friends gathered in the V.M.C.A. lounge and enjoyed a programme or games, ■ musical items, and dancing. Mr. H. E. Brooker and his daughter, Miss Lillian Brooker, received the guests. Baritone solos were sung by Mr. Alan Pike, Mr. J. : Mallard 'gave cornet solos, and Mr. John Davis violin solos,; Mr. J. N. Duncan was accompanist, Mr. Albert Brend presented some novel magic turns. .During ah interlude two boys visited the gathering, from the V.M.C.A. boys' camp reunion which was being held in the same building, and expressed the campers* thanks to the Optimists for the provision of a I new stove at the camp headquarters at Otaki. After supper, which was served, bymembers of the boys' department and the ladies' auxiliary, Mr. J. H. Newmaa played, for dancing in the gymnasium.
