GOOD FIELD IN THOMPSON

Very satisfactory acceptances have been received for the opening day of the Wellington Racing Club's Autumn Meeting, to be held on Friday and Saturday of next week, the^total of 113 representing an increase of two over last year's figures and of 25 over the 1937 entries, INCREASE IN RAILWAY. Of the original field of 29 in the Thompson Handicap, Oratory, Suleiman, Gay Chou, Lady Ina, Top Row, Tiger Gain, Rakahanga, Lickem, Debham, Fidelis, Galteemore, and Ruling Spi failed to survive the acceptance, thereby reducing the field to 17, or 11 less than last year. However, of these Suleiman, Lady Ina, Rakahanga, and Top Row have accepted in the Railway Handicap, in which event the field numbers three more than twelve months ago. The Trial Handicap promises to furnish the strongest field, numerically, of the day, the aggregate of 21 being 11 in excess of last year's.
