A cartoon in the "Schwarzekorps" portrays a bloated John Bull, whose body is represented by a globe of the world. His four waistcoat buttons, labelled Malta, Gibraltar, Suez, and Singapore, are all strained to bursting point.
The caption reads: "He will feel better after a little voluntary bloodletting."
