\ BLAZE IN CABLE STREET A fire in one of several loaded lorries in the Wellington Express Company's store, Cable Street, necessitated the attention of the Central » Fire Brigade shortly after 5 a.m. toI day. The goods on the lorries, and i the lorries themselves, were damaged, > and the building suffered slightly from 1 flames and smoke. A large amount ; of newsprint was in the store, but , this was probably saved from damage 5 by a wooden partition, which was " badly scorched. The premises are - owned by Briscoe, E. W. Mills, and 3 Co. c Yesterday the fire brigade had a ' busy time dealing with gorse fires, I which occurred at 12.59, 1.10, 1.33, 1.37. s 4.8.. 8.10, 8.29, and 9.49 p.m. i- At 9.30 p.m. fire in the weathers boarding of a house in Wesley Road 1 received attention, and at 10.20 p.m. a 1 small outbreak was subdued among 3 building timber in Onslow Road. - - 2 The Manx Motor-cycle Club will 5 hold a sports day at the club's ground * at Pahautanui next Sunday, commencing at 11 a.m. There will be cash [* prizes for many events, the programme i including scratch and handicap races, a teams event. City versus Suburbs, two lap dashes, and a big open handicap, also an exhibition of whippet rac- >. ing. Admission to the course and car - parking is free, and hot water will i- also be provided free to picnickers. •- Drinks, ices, etc.,. will be available at the ground.
