THE WOOL MARKET

DUNEDIN SALE

PRICES SHOW ADVANCE

(By Telegraph—Press Association.)

DUNEDIN, February 8. The second Dunedin wool sale was held today, when catalogues totalling 27,284 bales were offered. Apart from a few super lines, which were eagerly competed "for, the selection was not ujjf to the usual Dunedin second sale standard, largely because of adverse weather and shortage of feed during the winter and early spring. A larger proportion of high-country wools was offered than usual, and these opened up a little thinner and showed a tendency to be off colour with dry yolk. North Otago wools appeared to be in better condition than is usually the case. Competition was fairly well spread, but the Continental section took a big percentage of the catalogue, both in fine fleece suitable for their requirements, and in skirtings of all descript;pns. Bradford bought moderately, and support was also given by Germany, Japan, and the United States of America. As usual, local mills were ■well in the market for better-class wools, their main attention being focused on merino, quarterbreds, and fine pieces. They did not pay the i same attention to superfine halfbreds fes at the Christchurch sale. . As compared with the previous Dunedin sale on December 20, super-style merinos can be quoted definitely dearer, but average to inferior fine wools an 4 also all fine crossbred can be quoted fully firm on December rates. Pieces of all descriptions, however, can be quoted slightly easier, except three-quarterbred and crossbred crutchings. Fine crutchings were dull of sale and sold at low rates. . -Growers met the market well, and a "good clearance was effected at auction of fully 95 per cent., with the prospect of further sales being made Privately. Top price realised at the sale was 18d for three bales, of super merino, branded Puketoi and grown by; Mrs. Watson Sheenan, of Puketoi station. RANGE OF PRICES. flowing is the 9 ;.1 '',-; d. d. d. d.
