COMMENT BY OPPOSITION LEADER
IMPORTERS CHALLENGE MINISTER
The Government's policy of controlling exchange, imports, and exports is denounced by the Leader of the Opposition (the Hon. A. Hamilton) as "a desperate expedient, disguised as policy, which the Government hopes will extricate it from its self-made difficulties." The difficulties that have arisen are the direct result of the Government's socialistic policy, he says, and, instead of striking at causes, the Government is extending its policy and will go on doing so until the day of reckoning arrives.
A statement has also been issued by the Importers' National Committee in which the committee challenges statements made by the Minister of Finance and Customs (the Hon. W. Nash). While admitting the need for the conservation of London funds, the importers claim that the Government should not have gone to the lengths adopted.
