STATION 2KY

PUBLIC COMPANY MUST BE

FORMED

SYDNEY, January 10

The Postmaster-General, Mr. A. Cameron, has served a new demand on the broadcasting station 2KY, requiring that, before a new licence is granted, the Labour Council must agree to form a public company and to operate and control the station.

At present 2KY is controlled by a wireless committee elected yearly by ballot from delegates of the unions affiliated with the Labour Council.

The Labour radio station 2KY was put off the air on December 21 by the Postmaster-General, one minute's notice being given to it, of this action. The move was believed to have resulted from objections to statements made b> a news commentator, Mr. J. A. Moriey. Later the Station apologised for its new: commentaries, admitting that statements had been made "which were untrue and which the person making same should have known were untrue." The management also admitted that it had never believed that Mr. J. A. Lyons would have admitted to his Government a Minister who belonged to and was controlled by a foreign organisation, and that it was now satisfied it was untrue to say that the Postmaster-General had ordered censorship of telegrams or permitted police to listen to telephone conversations.
