G. HUMPHRIES TO RETIRE

(By Telegraph.) (Special to the "Evening Post.") CHRiSTbHURCH, This Day.

George Humphries, who has been first horseman for the Cutts's stable for the past three seasons, has decided to retire from race-riding, and probably his career _as a jockey came to an end at the recent Auckland Meeting. He broke a" leg oh Easter Monday, 1937, in a fall at Riccarton, and was off the scene for nearly a year. Even now his leg swells at times and is so stiff, that he feels he cannot always do. justice to the horses he rides, and this has led to his deciding to retire from the saddle.
