AUCKLAND, January .2. j Only on three occasions since 1885! has heavier rainfall been experienced at Auckland than last year, when 63 inches of rain was recorded during 12 months of contrasting weather. The first ouarter of the' year was marked by almost continuous sunshine, but unsettled conditions became general in April, and in succeeding months heavy downppurs of rain, sometimes of almost tropical intensity, added steadily to the aggregate fall till it exceeded "5 inches in December.
