PLUNKET SHIELD

OTAGO V. WELLINGTON

Only one of Wellington's three Plunket Shield engagements this season is to be met at home. This will be the match with Otago, whose representatives are due in Wellington from the south tomorrow evening. Play is to commence at the Basin Reserve at 11 a.m. on Saturday, and will continue until Tuesday unless the match ends before that day.

The representatives of these two provinces last season had a most exciting match at Dunedin, and Wellington enthusiasts will be looking to this season's engagement as one to provide more eventful cricket. The players themselves will be striving not only for the honour of the province they represent, but also to win their way to a higher place on the cricket ladder, this season's Shield matches being a testing time for players in view of the selection of the New Zealand cricket team to meet Sir Julien Cahn's side from England.

The hours of play on each day of the Wellington-Otago match are to be: First session, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; second session, 1.45 p.m. to 3.45 pan.; and third session. 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Twelve players having been chosen ior Wellington's team against Otago and Canterbury, it is unlikely that C. S. Dempster, who is in Wellington pending the arrival of Sir Julien Cahn's team in February, will be invited to play for Wellington, as had been suggested in some quarters.
