NEW ITALIAN PLANES

New types of fighters have recently been acquired by the Italian Air Force. These are the Macchi C.200 and the Fiat CR 42 The former is reported to have a "speed of 342 m.p.h. at 13,000 ft. This would .make it compare favourably with the, R.A.F. Hawker Hurricane, which is said to possess a maximum speed of about 330-335 m.p.h. at 15,000 feet. The Macchi C.200 is probably inferior however, in speed to the.Vickers Supermarine Spitfire, which' is ,4he latest single-seat fighter to /be supplied to the R.A.F. This is faster than the Hurricane, though how much faster has not yet been divulged. The Fiat CR 42 said to have a speed, of only 280 m.p.h. at 13,000 ft, is an improved version of the Fiat C.R.32, a biplane fighter with a 550 h,p. 12-cylinder Fiat engine, which has been used f extensively in Spain.
