WAIPA NOVICE WINNERS

The winner of each division of the Waipa Plate at Te Rapa on Saturday, Imperial Eagle and Kakarere respectively, is a three-year-old, and each is by a colonial-bred stallion. Imperial Eagle is a brown colt by the Brazen horse Bronze Eagle, winner of the New Zealand and Great Northern Derbies, and he is out of the General Latour —Rhodium mare Queen of the Earth, a Juliet descendant and the dam previously of Imperial Prince. He is owned by his breeder, Mr. E. Grimmond, of Otaua, Waiuku, for whom he is trained by F. R. Foster at Pukekohe. Prior to Saturday he had raced only three times. Kakarere is a brown filly by the Lucullus horse King Lv, winner of the Great Northern Guineas, and she is out of the Swift Flight—Kakama mare Rukatere, a half-sister to Quinkama, the dam of Namakia and Suleiman. This is the Winnie family again, which has lately been doing so well in the north. Kakarere is being raced on lease by Mr. W. J. Corrigan* of Morrinsville, for whom she is being trained at Te Rapa by A. Winder. Like Imperial Eagle, she had raced only three times previously.
