MAYOR AS HOST

UPPER HUTT FUNCTION

"A HAPPY FAMILY"

The Mayor of Upper Hutt (Mr. P. Robertson) and Mrs. Robertson entertained the councillors and staff of the Upper Hutt Borough Council and their wives last evening.

In proposing the toast of the staff, Mr. Robertson said that he had been in local body work since 1912, and could confidently say that the staff of the Upper Hutt Council had never been exceeded in efficiency by any others. In seven months of working, the council had developed into a good team, and what differences it had were always minor ones. The councillors were imbued with the idea of giving service to the people, and this same idea was held by the staff. They were doing loyal service. A lot was due to the administrative ability of the Town Clerk, under whose authority the staff worked harmoniously together.

In reply, Mr. B. M. Wilmshurst endorsed the Mayor's remarks regarding the outside staff. The inside staff worked famously together. Replies were also given by Messrs. A. Golder, the overseer, M. Brown, the foreman, and R. McKenzie, the assistant Town Clerk. The Deputy Mayor (Mr. J. Blewman) proposed the toasts of the Press, the Mayor and Mayoress, and Mr. W. Greig, the oldest member of the council. The toast of the ladies was proposed by Mr. W. Greig, and, in reply, Mrs. Robertson proposed the toast of the gentlemen. Councillor C. A. Rendle toasted absent frierids, and the sick people of the borough. This was replied to by Mr. H. Poison.
