FOREIGN POLICY
ISSUE IN BRITISH BY-ELECTION
(Independent Cable Service.) (Received December 14, 9 a.m.)
LONDON, December 13,
The important by-election campaign at Kinross and West Perthshire on the foreign policy issue in now in full swing, nominations having taken place yesterday. It is a straight fight between the Duchess of Atholl (Independent) and Mr. W. McNair-Snadden (Conservative).
Mr. Churchill, in a letter to the Duchess, said: "You are no doubt opposed by many Conservatives as loyal and patriotic as yourself, but the fact remains that outside our island your defeat would be relished by the enemies of Britain and of freedom throughout the world."
A cablegram published on November 21 stated that the Kinross and West Perth Unionist Association decided by 273 votes to 167 to seek a candidate in place of the Duchess of Atholl, whose Liberal views were disliked.
