in revenue collected by the Customs Department in Auckland occurred this month, compared with the figures for the -asfTespondSag monßi last year. There was a slight decrease under the minor heading ©£ tyre duty, out revenue ' from Customs, motor spirit, and sales tax, as well as excise on beer, were all substantially above the figures for JKfovemfcer, 1937. The declining tendency of Customs revenue, -which was noted earlier in .the year,, but was arrested w. October, was not apparent in November. The total of £330,902, though below the October figure of £343,520, was substantially above the return of £312,207 for November, 1937. Figures for the year to date are well abpve those at the corresponding' period of last year, 'the respective totals being £3,240,042 and £3,173,138 for the 11-month period. .Revenue from motor spirit tax amounted to £76,762 this month, against £72,038 fa November, 1937. The total under this heading for the x. months of this year was £788,750, compared with £710,732 for the same period in 1937. The only decline re- ' corded this month was in the tyre duty, the return being £3275, compared with £4721 in November, 1937. For the 11 months the 1938 figure, at £29,968, is below the 1937 return of £32,964.
Sales tax yielded £07,383 this month, comparing favourably with the total of £89,943 collected in the corresponding month last year. For the 11 months this year sales tax produced £952,358, compared with £928,374.
Excise on beer returned £24,064 this month, against £21,619 for November last year. The revenue for the 11 months was £192,356, compared wita £174j029.
