PERSONAL NOTES

The Hon. Robert Semple and Mrs. Semple visited Palmerston North at the weekend and I rere the guests there of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. R. Semple. Mr. and Mrs. W» H. Price (Wellington), who are visiting Christchurch for the races, intend to leave in March for a trip to England, returning at the end of next year. At the end of December, Mr. Price will retire from the Union Steam Ship Company, after 50 years' service. Mrs. Price is the guest of Mrs. P. Stanley Foster, Papanui Road. Mrs. S. O. English, Auckland, who is a member of the Dominion executive of -the League of Mothers, is attending the meeting of the Dominion Council of the League in Wellington, and is staying at the Windsor Hotel. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Brinkman and Miss Margaret Brinkman arrived in Christchurch frgm Wellington on Saturday. Mr. Brinkman has been appointed manager of the Christchurch branch of the Bank of New Zealand. Mrs. F. Kahlenberg (Gisborne), who has been the guest of Mrs. John' O'Shea, Oriental Parade, returned home at the weekend after visiting friends in Hawke's Bay. Mr. and Mrs. C. Rivers Carlyon, Aitken Street, have returned to Wellington after1 a visit to Mr. and Mrs. John Trewin, Oaro, Canterbury. Mrs. I. Bowen Richards, late of Christchurch, was a passenger from England by the Arawa last week, and is leaving by the Maunganui on November 12 for Melbourne. Miss Ruth Herrick (Napier), is the guest of Miss Olive Mcllraith, Merivale Lane, Christchurch. Miss Phyllis Gormley, Wellington, is the guest of Miss Jane Donnelly, Hagley Street, Christchurch. Mrs. J. Nathan, Wellington, is paying a visit to Eltham, where she is the guest of Mrs. A. J. McPherson. Mrs. W. Hall, Wellington, is visiting Masterton. Mr. and Mrs. E. S. Baldwin, Queen's Drive, Lyall Bay, are returning to Wellington on the Orion from a visit to England. a Miss Bunty McLeod, Martinborough, is the guest of Mrs. P. F. Sinclair, Kelburn. Miss Katrine Hursthouse and Miss Mary Hursthouse, who have spent some months in Great Britain and the Continent, will leave London on December 3 by the Ormonde on their return to New Zealand. / Mrs. N. Lewer is a Palmerston North visitor to Wellington. Mrs. C. Macdonald (Dunedin)} Mrs. A. J. Hamilton (Sydney), and Miss L. Peachey (Auckland) are staying at the Empire Hotel. Mr. and Mrs, S. C. Clare, Gisborrie, have returned home after a holiday visit to Wellington.. Mrs. J. K. Moloney and Mrs. M. V. Hull, Christchurch, are among the guests at the Grand Hotel. Captain and Mrs. G. H. Scull, Sandringham, Auckland, are the guests of Mrs. Ken Andersen, Military Camp, Trentham. Mr. and Mrs. J. Hennah, Hastings, are visitors to Christchurch for Cup Week. They are the guests of Mrs. P. Power, Durham Street. Miss Betty Williams, Gisborne, who is on holiday in Wellington at present, will pay a round of visits to friends in Auckland and Rotorua before returning home. Surgeon-Commander and Mrs. Vaughan Jones are Wellington visitors to Christchurch for race week. Miss M. E. Acton-Adams, Canterbury, is a passenger on the Orion, which will reach New Zealand towards the end of the month. Misses Menzies and Cblyn Foster have returned to Christchurch from the Royal and Palmerston North Agricultural Shows, where they had much, success. Miss M. Foster rode the Royal champion, and both riders won all the events for which they entered. Miss C. Foster won the Jellicoe Cup at Palmerston North, being the first junior competitor to hold it. Mr. and Mrs. P. Stanley Foster and Miss Patricia Foster, Wellington, are visiting Christchurch for Cup Week. Miss Dorothy Walton, Timaru, left London on Saturday on her return to New Zealand after a visit to England and the Continent. Mesdames F. McNulty (Dunedin), C. F. Bennett, Sydney Woods (Auckland), McGill (Adelaide), Harty (Wellington), G. H. Perry (Masterton), Misses Harty (Wellington), Peggy Dillon and Marg Coghlan (Christchurch) are at the Midland Hotel. Mrs. D. Deneby (Wanganui), Mrs. J. H. Coleman (Waipukurau), Mrs. ' Lan Hamilton (Hastings), Mrs. F. J. Dillon (India), and Miss M. Owen (Auckland), are among those staying at the Hotel Waterloo. '
