FOOLISH ACTION

CHRISTCHURCH ELECTOR

REMARK ON VOTING PAPER

(By Telegraph—Press Association.)

CHRISTCHURCH, This Day.

A man who took his politics so seriously on election day that he succumbed to the temptation to write an insulting remark about one of the candidates on his voting paper, may regret this indiscretion. Such action is an offence under the Electoral Act, and the returning officer for Christchurch East has handed the case on for investigation.

The remark on the voting paper was in reference to the National candidate in this electorate, Mr. K. Armour. Jt was couched in the most uncomplimentary language. In addition to a charge under the Act which, may be brought against this elector he also invalidated his vote by allowing his feelings to run away with him.

There are 34 apparent cases of dual voting, but in 30 of them there is no intention to commit an offence. The other four cases are being investigated by the police.
