BEATING THE SEASON

WELLINGTON V. LEVIN ~"

A team of Wellington cricketers visited Levin during the weekend and had a keen and enjoyable match with a local side, the "tail" of which showed dogged resistance in the endeavour to avoid defeat. The Wellington visitors were:—Ell, Morgan, and Rose (Wellington), Cleverley and O'Neill (Midland), Allen, Broit, Lubransky, and Rooke (Kilbirnie), and Foley, Mattson, and Randall (W.W.M.C.). Allen played for the Levin team. Some features of the match, which was drawn, were (in addition to the Levin "tail's" resistance) the throwing out of a player by Ell from a position square on to the wicket, the fielding, catching, and returns by. Lubransky, Morgan, and O'Neill, the wicket-keep-ing by Broit, the free hitting by Wallace (Levin), O'Neill, Lubransky, and Ell, and the bowling by Morgan (who took five for 19).
