THE KING'S THANKS
MESSAGE TO NATION
RESPONSE DURING CRITICAL
DAYS
(Received October 3, 11.10 a.m.) LONDON, October 2. His Majesty the King has delivered the following message to the nation: "The time of anxiety is past. We have been able today to offer fganks to the Almighty for his mercy in sparing: us the horrors of war. I would like now to thank the men and women of this country for their calm resolve during the critical days and for the readiness witli which they responded to the different calls upon them after the magnificent efforts of the Prime Minister in the cause of peaoc. "It is my fervent hope that a new era of frietnilship and prosperity is dawnittg among the peoples of the woaid. (Signed) George B.I." The Lord Mayor (Sir Harry Twyford) has disclosed that Mr. Chamberlain deprecates the launching of a national thanksgiving fund.
