SEASON CLOSING

FINAL RUNS

The 1938 harrier season is nearing its close and final club runs are being held. Olympic and Hutt Valley closed their seasons on Saturday under ideal conditions. OLYMPIC CLUB. The Olympic Club held, its final"run ' from Lyall Bay on Saturday with a fair attendance. One pack under W. McNaught, who are entrants for the 20-mile race, followed the coast road around to the Massey Memorial and then home by Evans Bay and Onepu Road, a distance of 13 miles. The other pack, under L. Meyers, followed the Lyall Bay beach to Moa Point and, then through Miramar and Onepu Road, a distance of five miles. On Tuesday evening the club will be losing Mr. W. Watt, who is leaving for Christchurch on transfer. He has beeif'handicapper for the club for [several years and has always been I held in the highest esteem by his club mates, who wish him success in his new position. Next Saturday the Olympic Club will be conducting the Gold Cup 20----mile race at Trentham. HUTT VALLEY CLUB. The Hutt Valley Harrier Club held the filial run of the season from the residence of the club's patron (Mr. E. Hartley) on Saturday afternoon. In the consolation race, six runners comprised the field. The course led from Howard Point, along the concrete road, crossing the oil works property, through Cullen's paddock to the racecourse, and back to the starting point via the beach. With the runners setting a fast pace, the order at the racecourse was G. Clark (3min) leading L. Hartley (3min), with L. Pritchard (30sec), G. Calvert (2min), R. Lewis (scr) and F. Hurley (2min) following at close intervals. Reaching the beach and running strongly, Pritchard took the lead, closely followed by Lewis and Calvert, the remaining runners being well spread out. This order remained to the finish, Pritchard winning from Lewis comfortably, with Calvert 100 yards back. After the run members and friends were entertained to afternoon tea by Mr. and Mrs. Hartley. Mr. H.
