CLAN MACKAY SOCIETY

The monthly social of the Clan MacKay Society was held on Saturday in the Rechabite Chambers.

There was a large attendance of members and friends, and in the unavoidable absence of the president, Dr. N. R. Mackay, Mr. E. C. MacKay, vicepresident, opened the evening by welcoming all present. He successfully carried out the duties of M.C.'

The feature of the evening's programme was a talk on the late Miss Jessie MacKay by Mr. O. N. Gillespie. Mr. Gilliespie left no doubt in the minds of the audience that the MacKays had one gem to be proud of. The programme consisted of several items by winners at the recent Wellington Competitions. Songs were given by Mrs. E. Wiltshire (Scottish), Mrs. G. Gunn (Gaelic), and Mr. L. G. Hopkins (English), a Highland Fling by Misses S. and H. Gunn, a Dutch song and dance by Miss Dawn Sargent, a skipping dance by Miss Joan Sargent, and an Irish Jig by Misses Sandra and Helen Gunn. Accompanists for the evening were Mrs. E. B. McGowan and Miss M. Oates. The society is indebted to Mr. W. Macrae, who acted as piper to the dancers, clan official pipers being on the sick list. Several new members joined, and a successful evening was brought to a close with "Auld Lang Syne" and the National Anthem.
