KOPARA LAUNCHED FOR N.Z. TRADE

The twin-screw motor vessel Kopara, launched at Home recently, has been built for Messrs. Richardson and Co. Ltd of New Zealand, for their coastal service, and has been specially designed by Messrs. Henry Robb, Ltd., Leith, to suit their requirements. She is of the shelter-deck type, her principal dimensions being 190 ft length by 35ft 6in beam by 21ft 3in depth, says the "Syren and Shipping." She is designed for a speed of 12 knots and is capable of carrying a total deadweight of 950 tons on a draught of 13ft Bin. Two holds give approximately 67,000 cubic feet capacity for easy stowage of general cargo, and these have large hatches with patent roller beams, each hatch being served by four electric winches ranging from two to ten tons capacity. The accommodation for the officers and crew is of the highest class, and every consideration has been given to comfort, lighting, heating, and ventilation. The propulsion machinery consists of twin British Polar Diesel engines, working on the two-stroke cycle, having four cylinders and capable of developing continuously in service JSTO b.h.<?, sk 250 r.ojn.
