A COINCIDENCE
The American Stake for two-year-old pacers and the American Stake for three-year-old pacers provided a coincidence in America, recently. The events fell to full-brothers in Blackstone and Chief. Counsel. Their jiire was the trotting horse Volomite, 2.31, by Peter Volo, but the dam was Margaret Spangler, 2.21, by Guy Axworthy. Blackstone (two years) won his heats in 2min 9sec and 2min 121 sec, and Chief Counsel won three heats in 2min 6-2 sec, 2min 6£sec, and 2min 51sec. It is interesting to note the American Stake for two-year-old trotters was won by Nibble Hanover, this > colt twice registering 2min 7sec. The day before Long Key, by Peter Volo. 2.2, from Isola's Worthy, 2.35, by Guy Axworthy, won .two of the three heats of the American Stake for three-year-old trotters 'in 2min ssec and 2min 61sec. At this series of meetings Dean Hanover, now a four-year-old, trotted an exhibition mile in lmin 593 sec. He was driven by Alma Sheppard, the little girl who made history with this colt last year when she drove the mile in lmin 58isec. Nibble Hanover is the ninth of his dam to better 2min 7isec, the fastest being a lmin 59|seC pacer.
