The appearance of Miss Kathleen Nunneley, 13 times winner of the .New Zealand women's singles championship, was a feature of the Wellington Club opening, attended by a large number of rhembers. Miss Nunneley played the traditional first ball of the season across the net.

Dr. A. N*. Slater, president, performed the opening ceremony, and speakers included Mr. L-.'Wise, chairman of the club's committee, and Mr. R. Cooper, representing the Wellington Association. Trophies were presented as follows:—

Men's singles, E. A. Roussell; women's singles, Miss F Fernie; women's doubles, Misses D. Nicholls and Fernie,* combined doubles, F. Gallagher and Miss Nicholls. Handicaps: Men's singles, N. Beck; women's singles, Miss M. Everton; men's doubles, M. Bennie and F. Renouf; women's doubles, Misses M. Sinclair and Everton; mixed doubles, C. Dixon and Miss Everton. ;

With the possible exception of L. RUGBY LEAGUE TOURISTS

The Eastern Suburbs (Sydney) Rugby League team, now on a visit to New Zealand for a series of three matches in. Auckland, is due in Wellington on Wednesday of next week, and will leave the same day for Sydney. The possibility of arranging a match in Wellington was considered by the local Rugby League Board of Control, and it was found that there were difficulties in the way.
