BANK OFFICERS' PAY

INCREASES IN VICTORIA AND TASMANIA

MELBOURNE, September 29

Increased pay has been provided for 4000 bank officials in Victoria and Tasmania under the new award of the Arbitration Court. The hearing proceeded for six months and was settled eventually in conference. The award does not apply to the Bank of New South Wales, which is under a separate agreement, or the Bank of New Zealand, which is already paying above >the award rates.

The new salaries range from £80 for the first year—an increase of £6 12s —to £412 in the eighteenth year. —an increase of £14 Bs.' Branch managers are included in the award for the first time. Salaries for branches with fewer than six hands, excluding agencies, are £415 for the first year and £435 for the third year. The rate for branches with six or more hands is £500 for the first year and £530 for the third.

Minimum rates for clerks of 21 years of age is £200 and of 28 years £325. Officers away from homes are to be paid a minimum of £135. The hours remain at 42.
