WOMAN FOR TRIAL

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) GORE, September 30.

Marcelline Isabeth, an elderly widow, ladies' outfitter, was charged in the Magistrate's Court, Gore, today before Mr. Abernethy, S.M., with arsoa. The police stated that a fire had been discovered in the accused's shop in Gore on July 31. The police found 11 causes of fire. The front and rear doors of the premises were locked and there were no marks on them. Firemen who burst' open the doors were greeted with a smell of kerosene and found material soaked in kerosene blazing in several places. One rack of frocks was destroyed.

Valuers gave evidence that the warehouse value of the goods after the fire was £.181 and the salvage value £108. An insurance clerk stated that. the stock and fittings were insured for £790.

The accused reserved . her defence and was committed for trial at the Supreme Court in Invercargill on November 1. Bail of £ 150 was allowed.
