SNOOKER
LOCAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Wellington provincial amateur snooker championship continued last night at Billiards, Limited, premises. Some excellent performances were registered. The first game was between J. L. Petley' (Commercial Travellers) and W. G. Fitzgerald (St. Patrick's Old Boys' Association). The players kept well together until towards the end of the first round, when Fitzgerald potted a fine pink and had the misfortune to drop his own ball. The scores were then, Petley 65, Fitzgerald 34. In the second round Fitzgerald made a great, bid, and looked like catching up the arrears, but again he was unlucky, and Petley, missing no chances, won by 111 to 76. The next game was between H. M. Blundell (CT. Club) and E. A. Josling (V.M.C.A.). Josling opened the scoring, but was soon passed by* Blundell, who was playing very steadily. Although Josling was not well treated with leaves, he was definitely not on form, and in the first game scored only 14 points to his opponent's 104. The second game was more evenly contested, but Josling was unable to make any impression on the long lead established by his opponent. The final score was Blundell 177, Josling 46.
The final match in the series was between P. Hay vice (Jewish Club), the present holder of the title, and A. Armstrong (Federal Club). In the first round Hayvice scored 62 and Armstrong 58. In the second game Armstrong proved himself superior and the final scores were: Armstrong 132, Hayvice 81.
Tonight, at 7 o'clock, C. Peek (Paramount) will play F. Wells (G.P.O. Social and Literary Club); at 8 o'clock, J. Muir (Queens) will play J. Lee (Victory); and at 9 o'clock, D. Phillips (Paramount) will play M. Ready (St. Patrick's Old Boys' Association).
