Pressure, however, has remained high in the north and has risen again in the south. Except for moderate to fresh north-westerlies in the Cook Strait area, winds yesterday wore light and variable. During the night a little southerly advanced up the South Island. It was showery in the far south yesterday but otherwise the weather was fair to flno generally with cool to moderate temperatures. Unsettled conditions developed overnight in central provinces, where it is still raining in a number of places, but tho nveather has already begun to improve.
