CANDIDATE'S ALLEGATION
SECRET RISE AGREEMENT
(By Telegraph—Press Association.)
DUNEDIN, September 29
Allegations that the Labour Government had come to an agreement with the Master Bakers' Association to allow them to increase the price of bread because fr of the increase in wages under the new award wex*e made at Macandrew Bay tonight by the .National Party candidate for Dunedin Central, Mr. W. J. Meade.
One of the terms of the agreement, he said, was that the information was not to be made public till after the elections.
"At present you know that the price of bread is fixed at ls for a large loaf," said Mr. Meade, "and sellers are not allowed to dispose of it at less than that price unless it is stale, when they may sell it at 2s 6d a sack.
"Thei Labour Government." he alleged, "has entered into an agreement with the Master Bakers' Association by which the price of bread is going to be increased. One of the terms is that the decision shall not be disclosed till after the election.
"This condition was made," Mr. Meade continued, "So that if the National Party went into power—as it will—the blame of the increase will fall on the new Government."
