A CONDUCTOR'S JUBILEE
A special programme of homage to Sir Henry Wood, the famous English conductor, will be broadcast from,2YA next Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock. This is to mark the jubilee of Sir Henry as conductor, and will anticipate a great national celebration arranged to be held at the Albert Hall next Wednesday to enable the musical world of Britain to pay tribute to Sir Henry with a special concert. Sir /Henry Wood is famous for his association with the Queen's Hall promenade concerts. No man of his time has- done so much to popularise good music and introduce new music, and the fame of the "proms" has gone over the world. The special programme at 2YA on Sunday afternoon is designed to show what manner of man Sir Henry is, and what: he has done for music. The hour and a half of homage will begin with a short talk by Mr. L. P. Austin, who is a personal friend of Sir Henry's and was present at the first promenade concert in the Queen's Hall in 1895. This will be followed, by a mixed musical programme—orchestral, vocal, and instrumental. The items, the soloists, and the annotations are all taken from actual programmes of the promenade : concerts. The assisting artists have all toured New Zealand and have been broadcast in the flesh by the National Broadcasting Service.
