WATT CUP

MANOR PARK'S WIN

r The Manor Park links were in exceptionally good order for the Manor Park-Paekakariki Watt Cup match on Saturday afternoon, but the home team had little difficulty in beating the visitors by, nine matches to. three. Their win, incidentally, has placed them in a very favourable position as far as the Watt Cup is concerned, the only other club with a chance being' Shandon, who have still to meet Waiwetu twice.

J. L.. Black played No. 1 for Manor Park and played a return match with R. G. Holland, and on this occasion,, also, he proved the winner. Black commenced fuH of confidence and won the first two holes in bogey: figures, moving to a 3 up lead at the fifth hole.' He retained this lead '■ till theend of the first nine holes. Slack was out in 37 to Holland's 40. After winning the tenth and the thirteenth, Holland was only 1 down, but Black took the fourteenth and fifteenth in bogey figures and ran out the winner by 3 and 2.

In the No. 2 position F. W. Page's 74 was, altogether too much-for H. C. Ribbands and J. Logan showed good form to beat a useful exponent in D. J, Oliver. The wins for Waiwetu were .'■ scored .-.by R. Dixon, C. "Walker, and',.'J\ Crawfbrdy but-the first two;engaged in close matches. x> Both were 1 down with three holes to play, : but managed to win on the final green. Among the tail-enders J. Hennessey and W. T. Wilson engaged in a putting duel on practically every green and some phenomenal putts were sunk. J. A. McKay, playing his first Watt Cup match this season, scored an excellent win. He earned promotion owing to an excellent record in Ranish Cup games this year.
