FAIR TO CLOUDY

MILDER TEMPERATURES

Special forecast for Wellington:—

Light to moderate but gradually freshening northerly to northwesterly winds.

Weather fair to cloudy and mild,

The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole, issued at noon today for the ensuing twenty-four hours, is for north-easterly to north-westerly winds, with a change at times to southwesterlies in the southern portion of the South Island. In the far south winds will be moderate to strong, but elsewhere they will be light to moderate, although gradually freshening south of New. Plymouth and Napier. In the western and southern districts of the South Island the weather will be cloudy to overcast, with rain at times in many places. Elsewhere it will be fair to fine at t first, but unsettled conditions with scattered rain will extend gradually northward over western districts. Temperatures will be mild.

The anticyclone which has been giving the Dominion such good weather has moved northward and its centre this morning was over the North Island. Winds have continued to be light and variable and the weather for the most part fine, with cool to average, temperatures. In the far south, however, the fine spell has broken and it was raining this morning in parts of Otago and Southland, the cause being a depression passing further to the south. As one or two more depressions appear to be following across the southern Tasman Sea, unsettled weather is probable for a day or two in Westland and in the far south.

Except for some cloud yesterday afternoon, Auckland's weather has been ideal, with bright sunshine and almost no wind. Yesterday's maximum and minimum temperatures were 63.7 and 41 degrees respectively.

Yesterday in Wellington was sunny with a few passing clouds, a light southerly wind keeping temperatures on the cool side. After a calm night, the wind this morning had gone round to the north. The maximum and minimum temperatures were 56.6 and 43 degrees, the minimum on the grass at Kelburn last night being 32 degrees. The amount of bright sunshine yesterday totalled 9.7 hours.

Christchurch had scattered cloud, with a light north-easterly wind and moderate temperatures. The maximum and minimum were 53.5 and 35.3 degrees, and there was a frost last night of 7.9 degrees.

Dunedin had bright sunshine yesterday with a keen north-easterly breeze, but the weather this morning was overcast and almost calm,
