Ball on Friday Night

The Wellington branches of the Nelson College Old Boys' and Old Girls' Associations will hold their annual ball in the Mayfair Cabaret on Friday night. This event is always one of the most popular of the dancing season and a large attendance is anticipated. Waitaki O.G.A. A very successful social 'evening in connection with the Wellington branch of the Waitaki High School Old Girls' Association was held in the E.S.U. Rooms recently. Receiving the guests were Mrs. J. Mackisack (president), wearing lavender taffeta, and Miss Norma Grenfell (hon. secretary), in lemon floral georgette frock. Vocal solos were sung by Mrs. Walter Gibb and Mrs. R. Wells. The winners of the two competitions were Miss Gretta Cooney and Miss Ida Docherty. Among j those present were Mesdames J. Steel, W. Gibb, R. J. Laurenson, E. Scott, \ A. Wintle, G. McCallum, A. Benge, A. Andrews, S. Branson, I. McKenzie, G. O. Harding, J. Houghton, R. Dawson, R. Wells, G. Warring, Earle, Roberts, Misses I. Robertson, E. Crawshaw, D. de Lambert, I. Docherty, M. Mushett, G. Cooney, N. Calder, R. Ward- A dainty and enjoyable supper was served. Coming Dances. The week wil] end up with gaiety as usual, as Saturday seems to have become a favourite night for dances and other entertainments. The Star Boating Club will be having one of its pleasant informal dances, and the Combined Motor Companies are giving a "Spirit of Progress" ball at the Mayfair Cabaret, which, if it follows out its ambitious name should be a very delightful function. All arrangements are being made to ensure the success of the dance, and the guests may expect quite a charming entertainment. Technical College Social. An enjoyable social was held under the auspices of the Parents' Association of the Wellington Technical College recently. Items were rendered by Mr. Ted Grant, Mr. Roy Mabury, Mr. Ted Norman ,and Mr. O'Connell, the accompanist being Miss Jones. The president of the association, Mr. Max Gandar, in welcoming those present, expressed regret at the small attendance and hoped that future functions would receive more support. He also made an appeal to old pupils of I the college to link up with the varij ous sports' clubs of the Old Students' Association, particularly stressing the need for membership of the cricket club. An enjoyable supper was served, and dancing and competitions helped to make the evening a very pleasant one.
