TALAVERA TENNIS CLUB'S DANCE Having played tennis in the afternoon, most of the members of the Talavera Municipal Tennis Club attended the opening dance of the season at the Kelburn Kiosk on Saturday evening. Green and gold streamers latticed the windows .of the hall and Chinese lanterns cast a warm glow on the wide verandah, which was used as a rendezvous between dances. The plain and chintz curtains were not drawn so that the lovely view of the city and harbour lights was not obscured. A refreshing supper was served. Mr. V. R. Stace (secretary) was in charge of the arrangements, and his committee included Mrs. Stace, Miss M. Cochrane, Miss M. Ross, the club president, Mr. G. L. Wells, and Messrs. N. Instone, H. Fulford, and O. C. Haynes. SUCCESSFUL HOUSE-PARTY A delightful house-party was given on Saturday evening by Mr. and Mrs. J. I. Goldsmith, of Washington Avenue, Brooklyn, in honour of their second daughter, Miss Naomi Goldsmith. The hall had been cleared for dancing and in the drawing-rooms which were fragrant with spring flowers, films were screened and competitions were played. Mrs. Goldsmith wore a gown of black and gold striped taffeta and a corsage spray of gold and cream tiger lilies. The guest of honour was wearing a classic gown of paper-white : chiffon with a sunray pleated skirt and ; a draped bodice with a scarf of emerald chiffon falling to the hemline. : Miss Evelyn Goldsmith's draped black ; georgette frock was appliqued with sprays of roses. She wore a veil of black net spotted with white and a ; single white rose in her hair. With ] her old-gold taffeta frock Miss Gwendoline Goldsmith wore violets at the neckline and a cluster of the same , flowers in her hair. Mr. Goldsmith presented his daugh- ' ter with a gold key, after which the ! pink, two-tiered birthday cake was ; cut.
