BUDGE'S RECORD
TENNIS "GRAND SLAM"
NEW YORK, September 24,
Results of the finals of the national lawn tennis singles championships at Forest Hills are:—
Men's Singles.—D. Budge (U.S.A.) beat C. G. Mako (U.S.A.), 6-3, 6-8, 6-2, 6-1.
Women's Singles.—Miss A. Marbla (U.S.A.) beat Miss N. Wynne (Australia), 6-0, 6-3.
Budge is the first player to win the American, British, French, and Australian titles in one season. Today's match was played in a picnic spirit, with Mako skylarking in the final set.
Lack of control in general and trying in particular to make every ball a winner cost Miss Wynne the singles. The crowd sat dejectedly while she made error after error, her game resembling that of a frightened schoolgirl. .
