"WORST KIND OF SCAB"
At question time at his meeting at Wanganui, Mr. H. C. Veitch, National candidate, was asked to define the unsavoury elements of the community he had referred to as being encouraged by the Labour Party, says, the "Wanganui Chronicle," Mr. Veitch replied that he was in favour of every man deserving of sustenance getting it, but there were men who were drawing it who were not entitled to, men who could get farm work but preferred not to. A voice: I challenge you to prove that. Mr. Veitch: I say that the man who is living on sustenance and is not entitled to is the worst kind of scab. Chinese opium smokers were prosecuted the other day and when asked where they got the money they said they got it from the Government. That is the kind of waster I am objecting to. I am not against the man who is genuinely on sustenance.
