NEW FIRE LADDER
After a visit to the principal cities of Great Britain, Mr. J. Philp, third officer of the Wellington Fire Brigade, who returned by the Maunganui, is of opinion that with one exception Wellington compares more than favourably with the plants he saw. The exception is a 100 ft all-steel ladder now in use in the big cities. It might cost £5000 to land here, but it can be worked by its driver alone. He can drive up to the building, touch switches, and the ladder is telescoped electrically to its full height. If it touches obstructions, the power is cut off automatically.
