PUBLIC FEELING AROUSED

(Received August 27, 9.40 a.m.) WASHINGTON, August 26. The Secretary of State, Mr. Cordell Hull, has emphatically protested to Japan concerning the destruction of the Chinese commercial airliner at Canton which was piloted by an American. He stated that the attack had aroused public feeling. The United States objected to the jeopardising of the lives of Americans and other non-com-batants in planes flying regularly on a scheduled route.
