(Received August 27, 11 a.m.) LONDON, August 26. Some excellent bowling averages were secured in the series of county cricket championship matches which ended today. Goddard (Gloucestershire) took five for 73 and eight for 62 against Leicestershire, for whom Dempster made 57 in the latter team's second innings. Wellard (Somerset), who did some big hitting at Frank Woolley's expense in the match against Kent, took seven for. 65 and six for | 50. John Langridge (Sussex) made a double century against Glamorgan and for the latter team, Dyson made 96 and 170 not out. Rain put an end to the match between Middlesex and Lancashire, which was drawn. Results are:— • Essex v. Derbyshire, at Clacton.— Derbyshire 190 (Townsend 70) and 160 (G. Pope 85; P. Smith five for 55). Essex 173 (Mitchell seven for 51) and 178 for four. Leicestershire 202 (Goddard five for 73) and 160 (Dempster 57; Goddard eight for 62). Gloucestershire won by 12 runs. Hampshire v. Surrey, at Bournei mouth.—Hampshire 82 (Watts four for 30, Parker four for 24) and 180 (Watts four for 40). Surrey 123 (Herman five for 66) and 140 for seven. Surrey won by three wickets. Lancashire v. Middlesex, at Manchester.—Middlesex 332 (Brown 114). Lancashire 123 for two. Rain stopped play. The match was drawn. Nottinghamshire v. Worcestershire. at Nottingham.—Worcestershire 73 (Woodhead seven for 24) and 399 (Perks 75). Nottinghamshire 364 and 109 for four. Nottinghamshire won by six wickets. Somerset v. Kent, at Wells. —Somerset 225 (Lewis six for 75) and 177 (Harding five for 51). Kent 215 (Valentine 114; Wellard seven for 65) and 160 (Wellard six for 50). Somerset won by 27 runs. Sussex v. Glamorgan, at Eastbourne. (—Glamorgan 279 (Dyson 96; J. Parks five for 52) and 341 for seven (Dyson [not out 170). Sussex 540 for six declared (John Langridge 215, H. Parks 112). Sussex won on the first innings.

Scotland v. Yorkshire. —Scotland 193 and 56 (Smailg^ seven for 24). Yorkshire 210 (Laidlaw seven for 70) and 40 for two. Yorkshire won by eight wickets.
