LOCAL ENTRIES HEAVY

Entries for the Wellington amateur boxing championships, which will be held; ta the Town Hall on September 6 and 7, are fairly heavy, and some very keen and interesting bouts are likely. Apart from Mclvor, last year's middleweight title-holder, and Fred Finnigan,' lightweight champion, who have turned : professional, the titleholders will probably all be competing. Jackie Parker (bantamweight) and Jack McCann (welterweight) are definitely participating. McCann has -been»seen to advantage in recent bouts and it"will take a good boy to lift the title from him. There has been some talk of staging a professional bout on the final night of the tournament, but nothing has yet been definitely decided. If the entries are considered sufficiently high >: as was the case last year, no bout will be staged.. *£tie Wellington amateurs this year have generally shown excellent form and have done much to save some of

the 'professional programmes. The clubs take the championships very seriously and, with the type of boys that has been seen, in the various local rings this season, everything points to a most successful and entertaining championship meeting. The shorter amateur bouts, with action from the word go, are frequently as entertaining, if not more so, than professional bouts.

The Hutt "Valley amateur championships will be held on September 5 and 6.
