POTATOES £2 PER TON

—■■ ♦ .' {$? Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) CHRISTCHURCH, August 26. The chief interest has continued to be in potatoes, although no business is being done. Merchants describe this week as one of the dullest m the potato market they can remember. Some of them have not sold a single ton. Farmers are still holding very large quantities, but there is no demand from the North Island markets, which are well supplied, and still no prospect of an outlet overseas. As the potato season is now well on it seems •certain that growers will be left with i heavy stocks at the close. The nominal quotation -is £ 2 a, ton pn trucks.
