A V.M.C.A. LEADER
Mr. Henry N. Holmes, a notable figure in the V.M.C.A. and at present secretary to the World Alliance for the Promotion of Good Will throughout the Churches, is visiting New Zealand after an absence of 25 years, and while he is here special gatherings of the V.M.C.A. and reunions of friends have been arranged for. Mr. Holmes was associated with the V.M.C.A. in New Zealand in its early days, and particularly with the erection of the Wellington V.M.C.A. building.
Mr. Holmes was one of the special I speakers sent from France during the war period to America to enlist American public sympathy prior to that country coming into the war. On that trip he married, and while returning fto England the ship was torpedoed Fand sank within twelve minutes.
1 After the war Mr. Holmes was secretary for Metropolitan V.M.C.A. work in London. In 1922 he was invited to America to take up special work there in which he still continues. He is visiting Wellington on a brief holiday en route to. Melbourne to attend the World Christian Endeavour Unidn, lof which he is the vice-president.
