TRAIN MEETS JIGGER
INSPECTOR JUMPS CLEAR

MASTERTON, This Day,
A narrow escape was experienced by a relieving bridge inspector of the New Zealand Railways, whose jigger was struck by a south-bound goods train north of Opaki at about 11 o'clock yesterday morning. Fortunately, the inspector was able to jump clear, but the outrigger of the jigger was broken by its impact with the engine, whi';h was puljing up when the collision occurred. The accident took place at a bend north of the Ruamahanga River.
After the mishap the jigger was placed on the train for conveyance to Petone for repairs and the inspector returned to Masterton, where he connected with the north-bound mail train to continue his journey.
