MEASLES EPIDEMIC
MASTERTON FREE
OTHER DISTRICTS AFFECTED
(Special to the "Evening Post.") MASTERTON, This Day,
So far the measles epidemic which is prevalent in many North Island districts has not obtained a hold in Mastertori. A few cases have been reported, including those of several adults, but a good indication of the incidence of the disease may be gained from the fact that out of a roll number of 610 at the Masterton'Central and East schools not a single absentee is known to be away on account of measles. "The attendance-at the school is well over 90 per cent., which is quite normal for this time of the year,"' said the headmaster (Mr. E. G. Coddington) this morning.
A Masterton doctor, in reply to an inquiry, said he had heard of few cases in Masterton and most of these were from Wellington and elsewhere.
Inquiries in other Wairarapa towns showed that the disease is fairly prevalent in Grey town and neighbouring areas. Some of the cases reported are of a. severe type. . Grey town seems to have a considerable number of cases and it is possible that the school there might be closed. Martinborough appears" to be free of the disease so far and only four cases are known in Carterton, though three of these are adults and are of a severe type.
