FORTY-SEVEN SPEECHES
ADDRESS-IN-REPLY DEBATE
EARLY CONCLUSION LIKELY
Forty-seven members had contributed to the Address-in-Reply debate when the House of Representatives adjourned last evening. The most notable feature of the day's proceedings was the fact that only one Opposition speaker availed himself of the opportunity of taking part in the debate, while there were nine Government speakers and one Independent, the last-mentioned being Mr. D. McDougall (Mataura), who enlivened the proceedings in his usual style. The continuation of the debate brought forth little that was new and an early termination appeared lively on the rising of the House.
