FRUIT AND VEGETABLE MARKETS
The director of the Horticulture Division of the Department of Agriculture has received the following reports from the fruit inspector, Mr. E.•" T. Taylor, on the condition of locally-grown fruit and vegetables in Wellington shops and aution rooms, and the market conditions for June:— Apples and pears: During the early and latter parts of the month apples and pears were in heavy supply. Tree tomatoes: In fairly good supply. Vegetables: With the exception of silver beet, vegetables were in short supply and prices, especially of cabbages and cauliflowers, have been high. . The following is a, return of prices realised: — Apples.—Delicious, X.F. and F. 5s to 9^ per case, com. 2s 6d to 4s 6d; Sturmer, X.F. and F. 4s 6d to 6s, com. 3s to 4s; Jonathan, X.F. and F. 6s to 9s 6d, com. 2s 6d to 3s 6d; Ballarats, X.B1. and F. 5s to 6s, com. 3s 6d to 4s 6d; Granny Smith, X.F. and F. 5s to 6s, com. 4s to 4s 6d; Rome Beauty, X.F. and F. 4s 6d to 5s 6d, com. 3s 6d to 4s. Pears.—Winter Gole, X.F. and F. 6s to 9s 6d, com. 4s to 5s 6d; Winter Nelis, X.F. and F. 5s 6d to 6s 6d, com. 3s 6d to 4s 6d; P. Barry, X.F. and F. 5s to 6s, com. 3s 6d to 4s 6d; Keiffers, X.F. and F. 6s to 7s 6d, com. 4s 6d to 5s 6d. . . Tree tomatoes, 5s to 8s 6d per halfcase; grapefruit, J3s to 11s per case, (others) 5s to 6s; lemons, X.F. and F. 8s to 13s, good and small 4s to 11s; Cape gooseberries, large 8s 6d to 11s per halfcase, small 4s 6d to ss; passions, according to quality, 22s 6d to 425; lettuce, choice 5s 6d to 14s 6d, others 2s 6d to 4s 6d; spinach, 6s to 18s; marrows, 2s to 3s 6d; silver beet, 3s 6d to 9s; beetroot, 2s 6d to 3s 6d; parsnips^ 2s 6d to 4s 6d; swedes, 3s 6d to 6s 6d; carrots, 3s to 6s 6d; cucumbers, hothouse Is 3s to Is 6d; cauliflowers, choice 9s! to 12s per case, others 6s to 8s; cauliflowers, 14s to 19s 3d per sack; cabbage choice 8s to 10s per case, others 4s 6d to 6s 6d; cabbage, 12s to 17s peri sack; green peas, Nelson, Is 2d to Is 6d per lb; pumpkin, 5s to 7s per sack; leeks, 6s to 7s 6d per case; rhubarb, 8s to 12s per dozen bundles; beans, hothouse, Is 3d to Is 6d per ,Ib. lh, ........
