The racing on the middle day of the Wellington Winter Meeting was a marathon test for most of the horses, as the track has rarely Been pastier and slower than it was yesterday, and one had the unusual spectacle'of witnessing horses unable to complete the course in the fiat events. . Despite the conditions the public were generally near the mark, three favourites succeeding and only two of the winners paying outside prices.
The clay was fine but much more bleak than the opening day, and there $;as a good attendance for the off day, resulting in a further small increase in the investments. For the two days so far the increase has been 9 pet cent.
