THE ROYAL SHOW
CENTENNIAL YEAR
"NO PRACTICABLE SCHEME"
The question of holding a Centennial Royal Show at Wellington during the currency of the Centennial Exhibition was further considered by the annual meeting of tfee..:.Rpyal-Agricultural Society of New Zealand yesterday afternoon, and a''resolution.. was carried to the effect that, if practicable, the show be held at Wellington. A committee was appointed to examine the proposal, and to explore the possibility of finding a permanent home for the Royal Show in or near Wellington. '
The committee reported today that it .considered the holding of a Royal Show in Wellington in 1940, in temporary buildings, impracticable, and it also considered unfavourably the holding of a summer show in v the autumn of 1940 at Palmerston North. It recommended no practicable scheme for the holding of a Centennial, Show, but recommended that the Royal Show, to be held in Invercargill in 1939,' be designated a Royal Centennial Show. It recommended that the committee set up the previous year continue in office and formulate a scheme for the future conduct of Royal Shows, the scheme to be submitted to a meeting of the council of the Royal Agricultural Society when this yeaVs Royal Show is held at Hamilton next October. If the scheme is approved, A. and P. associations and breed societies are to be asked to report on the scheine prior to next year's annual meeting of the society.
The committee's report was adopted,
At the conference of the Royal Agricultural Society today a remit, providing that the Royal Show be confined to Christchurch and Palmerston North, and be held in the autumn, was lost.
