A message by the Japanese Em* peror on the occasion of the first anniversary of the war in China calls for national sacrifice and concentration to eliminate long-standing evils. Prosperity, through Chinese and Japanese co-operation, would servo to ensure world peace. The Minister -of Finance, Mr, Ikeda, announced that Japan's financial and economic position is no\f favourable." # A minute's silence was observed at noon today as a tribute to the war dead. Memorial services t were held throughout the country.
