The second round of the British Open" Golf Championship was played today. The'weather was overcast, with a strong wind against which most of the holes had to be played'.

The best round of* the day was C. J. Tolley's 68, which equals the amateur record for the course. Royal St. George's, on which the play is taking place, is at present 6728 yards in length.

The following thirty-seven qualified for the final two rounds, which will be played tomorrow: —

Scores of 149 and over failed -to qualify. All the Australians were eliminated. Hattersley was the best of them with an aggregate of 150.

The failure of Bruen, of Ireland, was the result of 80 today for a total, of 150. ,

Sharing twenty-fifth place with five others, Cotton's chance of retaining the championship is very remote. He admits that he played "badly and is too far behind to catch the leaders.
